The Art of Teaching

Learning the art of teaching Scottish Step Dance with Frank McConnell

Earlier this year, our Artistic Director – Jen Wren, started working in project with Frank McConnell, one of Scotlands most renouned Scottish Step dancer and teacher.

Their project has been full of discussions, research and studio sessions surrounding the art of teaching this particular form of dance.

Jen says, “Working with Frank is such a rich learning experience.  He has brought me so much information, shared his teaching methods and technical aspects of the art form.  There is so much to learn and this process has been a great insight and not only that, great fun – you can’t work with Frank and not have fun, its impossible!

Its an honour to be trusted to take on board the information he has shared and to pass it on in ways where people can understand the background to the wonders of Scottish Step Dance and in ways where we can respect and maintain the traditional fundamentals, both holding the tradition as close to its original form as possible and for whoever wants to, expand upon it also.”

A brilliant project, generously supported by Tasgadh, has sparked new collaborative ideas and future projects.

Frank will join Jen in her upcoming Dance Base residency in June 2023.  Future projects will be announced along the way.
