The Company
Slanjayvah Danza lives on the crests where traditional arts are magically woven with modern, contemporary twists.
Slanjayvah Danza is a creative production company, based in the Carse o’ Gowrie, in the heart of rural Perthshire in Scotland. Driven by creator and artistic director Jen Wren since 2004. The company employs dancers, musicians and technicians, steeped in the traditional heritage and cultures of Scotland and Spain, to create contemporary dance productions with a strong distinctive voice and infectious energy. Slanjayvah Danza is committed to promoting opportunities for young dance artists as well as hosting residencies for international guest artists at our bespoke beautiful studio at Little Rait Steading.
At the centre of our artistic practice is a commitment to celebrate people, our stories, a sense of place, and community with authenticity and joy in making connections.
We Dance — weaving traditional folk arts with skill and innovation into contemporary performance — with live dance, music, storytelling and theatre.
Whats in a name?
Our name was created to celebrate the unity of traditional backgrounds, cultures and art forms which inform and underpin our work. Slanjayvah, derived from the Gaelic toast to good health ‘Slàinte Mhath’, and Danza - the Spanish word for dance. Merging the cultures of Scotland and Spain by celebrating our combined passions for traditional and contemporary dance and music. Click on the sound clip to hear how we say it.
